New Medical Centre commissioned in Macuata

Residents in the Northern Division will now be able to access an all-inclusive medical clinic following the commissioning of the Wailevu Diagnostic and Specialist Medical Centre outside Labasa Town yesterday.

The medical centre offers not only general practitioner services, but also lab testing, ultra-sound scans as well as x-ray services, with a pharmacy to be added later.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad while officiating at the event said the centre represents a significant milestone in the Nation’s journey towards providing accessible healthcare services to all Fijians.

“The opening of centres like this will certainly improve access to diagnostic services to support better quality healthcare to our people in rural areas as well as enhance the quality of life of our people, which is also the aspiration of the Government.”

Prof Prasad said the Government is committed towards strengthening of the Healthcare Public Private Partnership (PPP), for continuity of quality and efficient healthcare service delivery for all Fijians.

“This includes the Free Health Scheme whereby approved individuals who are otherwise heavily dependent on the public health infrastructure and services, are now able to access private healthcare services from General Practitioners, Dental Practitioners, and Medical Laboratories.”

He congratulated the Director Dr Ram Raju for his commitment towards improving healthcare accessibility for the people of Vanua Levu, and making the Diagnostic and Special Medical Centre a reality.

The clinic operates in Partnership with VanMed Lab which is owned by Dr Arveen Chandra.
