Ratu Epeli resigns over Fiji Water saga

Nov 18, 2010 12:00:00 AM

Fiji's outgoing Minister for Defence and Immigration Ratu Epeli Ganilau says he resigned from government over differences on how to deal with a Fiji Water executive.

“We had some differences over the David Roth (Fiji Water's director of external affairs) issue,” Ratu Epeli, who was also Acting PM when he quit, told FijiLive in an exclusive interview this morning.

Ratu Epeli said he resigned because he did not agree with discussions he had with the government concerning Roth

“I sent my resignation through email but it has not been acknowledged by the PM as yet."

Ratu Epeli said he resigned willingly and would stay at home and rest and later spend Christmas in Taveuni with his family.

Permanent Secretary for Information Sharon Smith-Johns announced his resignation yesterday.

Minister for Primary Industries Joketani Cokanasiga replaced Ratu Epeli and will act as Prime Minister until Voreqe Bainimarama returns early next week from a trade mission to China.
