FCEF to remain apolitical: Hazelman  Fiji’s Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) will remain apolitical, says Nesbitt Hazelman.

The FCEF presidentcomment made the comments following consultations with Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on the draft constitution.

“We are apolitical and we are only concerned with the areas of business in this country," Hazelman told FijiLive.

“The consultation was held in order to give AG the opportunity to speak to businessmen regarding areas in the draft constitution which affect us."

He said they were not too concerned with the voting process, but rather sections of the draft document that would have an impact on their businesses.

Hazelman welcomed provisions included in the draft regarding the decentralisation of public service saying this would be an advantage for the private sector “as we would be able to get decisions faster.”

Of discussions with the AG, Hazelman said it was an educational process.

“And we are happy that we were able to learn more about the draft constitution,” he said.

The FCEF, Hazelman said would forward their submission to government to be considered in Fiji’s Constitution.

Meanwhile, consultations on the draft document continue in Nasinu tomorrow at the Rishikul Sanatan College hall at 7pm tomorrow.
