Digicel ready to provide e-ticketing solution With bus companies now given a grace period to install e-ticketing consoles, communications company, Digicel Fiji is working closely with relevant government authorities to provide e-ticketing system to the traveling public.

The company believes that by allowing other service providers to enter the e-ticketing market, consumers will benefit as competition will increase accessibility for the purchase and top up of cards as customers will be able to purchase top up cards from Digicel’s extensive retail and potentially its wide network of reseller partners.

This it says will help reduce long waiting lines as mentioned in the media recently and alleviate some frustrations.
The company also hopes to provide a more affordable e-ticketing card in the market in the long term.

They are proposing that all e-ticketing bus consoles are fully inter-operable with each telecommunications provider. For example, similar to ATM machines that allows any bank’s ATM card.

To the bus operators, they are looking to reduce their costs by lowering the operators’ transaction fees and also by reducing the daily data costs they incur. In addition, a fully inter-operable solution will ensure consumers can utilise any bus despite the telecommunications e-ticketing card they may hold.

The current consoles installed and activated by Foneology and operates under Vodafone Fiji’s platform.
The deadline for bus companies to comply has been extended to May 17.
