Interline cargo deal to benefit local exporters Fijian exporters will now be able to send their exports to newer markets in the Middle East and Europe, thanks to a new interline cargo arrangement between the Fiji Airways, Fiji’s national carrier, and Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates.

The agreement signed today sees both airlines offer rates for seamless carriage of cargo between Fiji and the Middle East and Europe.

Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Stefan Pichler said the agreement means larger distribution and increased capacity for cargo from Fiji.

“This will greatly assist Fijian exporters to utilise our daily Sydney and Auckland services to send their products to newer markets,” he said.

Fiji’s Attorney-General and Minister for Industry and Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the arrangement is a big win for “Brand Fiji” and efforts to increase overseas companies access to the Fijian market.

Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo, Nabil Sultan said the agreement further extends their global reach and opens up new business and trade lanes, giving their customers access to markets in the South Pacific region.

Fijian Ambassador Robin Nair welcomed the conclusion of the agreement saying that a large importer of fresh produce from Dubai was keen to take advantage of the partnership, ready to travel to Fiji to look at Fijian fresh produce.
