Stats record increase in IPI in third quarter The All Group Industrial Production Index (IPI) for the September quarter of 2013 stood at 124.4 which is approximately 24.4 per cent higher than the base year of 2008 of 100.0.

This is an increase of 5.7 per cent compared to the June quarter of 2013 but decreased in comparison to the September 2012 quarter, decreasing by 3.3 per cent.

The Fiji Bureau of Stats put down the increase in the September quarter to higher volumes of production.

In Mining & Quarrying there was an increase from the previous quarter and now stands in 263.5. Higher grades of ore being extracted were a major contributing factor.

Flour, rice and other grain mill products also increased and now stands at 112.6.

Better operational and production results of the mills during the 2013 crushing season has boost  the sugar production which showed an increase when compared to the previous quarters and now stands at 197.8.

Alcoholic drinks and non alcoholic drinks and cigarettes both had an increase compared to the previous quarter which is influenced by the market demand. Alcoholic drinks stands at 121.7 while non alcoholic drinks and cigarettes stands at 101.7.

The wearing apparel index stood at 128.9 which showed an increase compared to the previous quarter. The productions of wearing apparel are largely dependent on orders received.

Saw- milling & planning of wood and manufacture of products of wood, cork plaiting material index increased and stands at 152.2.

The paper & paper board, other articles of paper and printing index stood at 97.2.
Compared to the previous quarter the index showed an increase but a decline when compared to the previous corresponding quarter.

 The cement, concrete products, cutting & shaping of stone, basic metal and casting of metal index increased compared to the last quarter and now stands at 139.1.

The manufacture of furniture index stands at 93.2. The index declined compared to the previous quarter but an increase when compared to the previous corresponding quarter. The fluctuation of figures depends on orders received.

The electricity index declined when compared to the previous quarter and stands at 105.6. The movement of the electricity index reflects usage.

There was also an increase in water index, now stands at 107.1 also demonstrating an increase in usage.
