The Unit Trust of Fiji (UTOF) is a good vehicle for ordinary Fijians when it comes to investment, says Minister for Trade and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Sayed-Khaiyum made the comments after the Unit Trust handed him a dividend cheque of $119,526 in Suva today.
He also asked the company to reach out more to the grassroots people.
“Whether to landowners or to the landowning unit, to invest into those types of opportunities, this is one means of saving and good return on the money that we have,” Sayed-Khaiyum said.
He further said that Fiji’s success is dependent on the people’s ability to save and ability to spend wisely adding that investing with the company would encourage more people to get into the capital market.
“We also have an income and growth fund that has a greater return of 5.8per cent per unit and there’s of course the income fund.”
Sayed-Khaiyum also acknowledged the work put in by the management at UTOF.
UTOF chairperson Shaenaz Voss handed over the cheque.
