Sigatoka resort to close for renovation Yatule Beach Resort along the Coral Coast will be closed from next week for renovations as its management seeks to increase the resort's profitability.

A statement from the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) states that the resort will be closed from 1 May 2013 till 31 October 2014 to allow for renovation to boost its profitability since it "has been operating at a loss since inception."

The statement further said YBRL have explored several options with a view to increase the resort's profitability, which included upgrade of the facilities and outsourcing management to an external operator.

In line with this, expressions of interest were sought and the resort's management, Yatule Beach Resort Limited, is considering an offer from potential operator for leasing of the renovated property.

Staff of the resort will be offered redundance packages in line with the Employment Relations Promulgation 2007 and the Collective Agreement.

They will also be allowed to apply for positions at the resort with the new operator.

Yatule Beach Resort was constructed in 2005 to serve as accommodation facility for consultants and contractors involved in the construction of the Intercontinental Natadola Resort. Upon completion of the resort, Yatule resort was then converted to a bungalow accomodation. However, it had been operating at a loss.
