Court bails election fraud suspect A Koronivia man who allegedly circled the number 279 on a pre-poll ballot paper of another Fijian voter has been released on bail with strict conditions.

Ronal Kumar appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today before Magistrate Makereta Mua and was charged with breaching the Electoral Decree.

He is the fifth person to be charged by FICAC with breaching the electoral act.

Kumar faces one count of ‘Offences in Relation to Ballot Papers’ and two counts of Undue Influence.

It is alleged that on September 3 when pre-poll started, Kumar who was then employed as a DHL driver is alleged to have marked the pre-poll ballot paper of one Satya Wati Ram.

He is also alleged to have interfered with the free exercise of the political rights of Satya Wati Ram and of Jai Ram.

Rosemary Drau, appearing for FICAC, served the first phase disclosures on Kumar.

Kumar was released on bail with strict conditions to report to FICAC  every Friday between 6am and 6pm, not to re-offend whilst on bail and he had two sureties to sign bail bond in the sum of $500 each.

The matter is adjourned to 7 October 2014 for the second phase disclosures.
