No case filed against Qarase: Police Fiji's Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald confirms there is no case registered in his institution to warrant the arrest of former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase.

Groenewald’s comments and reassurance comes in light of a statement released by the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) where the party talked about reports of Qarase’s possible arrest  upon his return from America and party officials requested him to remain overseas.

Released on September 4, the statement numbered 25 quotes Ro Teimumu saying “We do not wish him to come to any further harm or unfair treatment at the hands of this regime as he has already been persecuted and has served his sentence in prison under highly questionable circumstances, we do not want him to face a similar fate again.”

Today Commissioner Groenewald said “I can confirm that there is no criminal case registered within the Fiji Police Force against Mr Qarase which would warrant his arrest upon his return.”

Meanwhile the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has also denied claims that they are conducting investigations regarding Qarase.

“FICAC denies this statement based on misconceived information.”
