Australian embassy sponsors designers The Australian High Commission will sponsor three student designers in their preparations for showing their work at Fiji Fashion Week.

The Commission has partnered with Fashion Council of Fiji to support the students in showcasing their talent in the biggest fashion show of the Pacific.

The Fashion Council has facilitated the selection of the student designers, and will provide mentorship and technical assistance as they prepare to debut their collections.

"My team and I at the Fashion Council are very excited about the future of our nascent industry. Naturally, this future is dependent upon new talent,” said Faraz Ali, Fashion Council chairperson.

“We are proud and grateful that the Australian High Commission has agreed to partner with us to alleviate some of the financial pressure on student designers so that they can truly put their best efforts into their capsule collections at Fiji Fashion Week.”

The sponsored designers will be announced at tonight’s Fashion Council launch event in Suva.

“Every designer needs to start somewhere. We hope these sponsorships will give budding designers the confidence they need, enabling them to focus their creative energies on making their Fashion Week entries the best they can be,” said Australian High Commissioner Margaret Twomey.

Additional Australian Government support for the fashion industry in Fiji includes the provision of two Australia Award scholarships for fashion studies in 2014 and Australia-Pacific Technical College courses on garment construction.
