Mar 18, 2016 06:20:01 PM

Laws of Fiji consolidated The revised Laws of Fiji will be launched in the April sitting of Parliament and the Attorney-General’s Office is working closely with LexisNexis Australia to prepare and publish the consolidation.

Amendments were made to the Revised Edition of Laws Act 1971 in the February sitting in preparation for the proposed launch.

The Laws of Fiji were last consolidated in 1985 and have not been revised for over three decades.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this process is important so that all Fijians have access to the full and correct version of the Laws of Fiji.

“The consolidation is very important because it does contribute in a practical and tangible sense in helping build the rule of law. Many people in Fiji mention the rule of law without understanding what it means,” he said.

Anupama Bhattacharya, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Editorial Operations, LexisNexis said they are honoured to be part of this process and help Fiji in consolidating its laws.

“LexisNexis is honoured to partner with the Fijian Government in our drive to support the Rule of Law and make access to law easier for everyone. To this end, we are helping to consolidate 30 years of Fiji legislation,” she said.

The consolidated laws will also be available to the public through a dedicated website.
