Consultation begins for 2016-17 Budget Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has begun consultations with stakeholders for the 2016-17 National Budget.

Government ministries, departments and other agencies submitted their funding requests for the upcoming fiscal year this year.

“The upcoming budget will focus on promoting inclusivity and broad-based growth so that we can continue creating sustainable employment for ordinary Fijians in the aftermath of Cyclone Winston. We are prioritising funding for policies focussed on boosting our climate resilience and rebuilding from the cyclone,” said Sayed-Khaiyum.

He also emphasised the importance of consultations with the general public and said advertisements will be placed in newspapers encouraging members of the public to submit written submissions on their ideas and suggestions for the 2016-2017 National Budget.

The Attorney General and the Ministry of Finance team are also scheduled to meet with key non-government organisations and other stakeholders in the coming days.
