3 patients in critical condition: Dr Fong Three of Fiji's active COVID-19 patients are in a critical condition.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong while announcing nine new cases last night confirmed the three are in a severe condition while other patients are stable.

“The medical officials at the isolation facilities are now looking after those patients who may become severe in the next few days.

“We are now looking at those who have tested positive for coronavirus and how many of them are likely to become severe in the next few days.

“Based on the data collected by the medical officials in the next four days, we will then make a firm commitment on what further steps we need to take,” he said.

He said there is a need for individuals to practice social distancing and safe hygiene as this is a scary disease.

“There are real ways we can protect ourselves that align with the best available science and data like wearing masks, proper two meters distance and washing of hands,” he said.

“Most importantly, we can base our decisions off of verified information, we can wait for the facts as they come out and act accordingly.

“We must stay the present course by staying calm and staying home as much as possible. If you have an absolutely essential reason to move, wear a mask.

“Also maintain physical distance and make sure you have careFIJI app installed on your phone with Bluetooth switched on.

“Let’s make responsible use of the next 48 hours and let’s remember that we are in this fight together, everything we do as a ministry, we do it for you and for your safety,” he said.

He said there are currently 49 active cases in the country after three more recoveries.
