Food helpline activated The food ration helpline has been activated.

Over a hundred civil servants and 40 vehicles have been dedicated to distributing food ration packs in the Suva and Nausori lockdown areas.

Permanent Secretary of Health Dr. James Fong said those that applied for food assistance before 12pm will not be receiving their ration from the government.

“The dedicated line for requesting food rationing has been tested with Vodafone and Digicel and is functioning well. It was activated today at 12pm.

“People needing food assistance can request food rations by dialing *161#. Applicants must provide their name and other details including street address.

“It is imperative that we have information that will allow us to locate you quickly. Requests received before 12pm on 16 May 2021 are not registered.

Dr Fong in the press conference last night said to remove some of the work off their shoulders, the Ministry of Economy will be looking after the food ration programme.

“We really someone else to service the food ration programme as we have a lot on our plate right now, we have discussed this extensively with the Ministry of Economy,” he said.

“They will be looking after the rationing of food to people who are in need along the Suva-Nausori containment area during the 77 hour curfew period.

“One of the things they learned during the 56 hours of curfew is that they need someone else to handle the rationing program,” he said.

He said they are going to set-up another dedicated hotline for members of the public to call so that food rations can be delivered to them.

He said the Ministry of Economy will be looking after the rationing of food to people who are in need during the next few days.
