39 new cases of coronavirus: MOH There are 39 new cases of coronavirus, says Permanent Secretary for Health Dr. James Fong.

Dr Fong in a statement said 32 of the new cases are linked to existing clusters.

He said six of the cases are from the cluster in Nawaka, 11 from Colonial War Memorial Hospital, and five from the Nasinu Police Barracks.

He said three are from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption warehouse, two from Navy, two from Waila, one from Naitasiri, and one from IMT.

“Seven patients have recovered, which means there are now 656 active cases in isolation. There have been 849 cases during the current outbreak that started in April 2021." He said.

“We have recorded a total of 919 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020. There have been 256 recoveries and four deaths due to coronavirus,” Dr. Fong said.

He said a total of three coronavirus positive patients have died from pre-existing non-COVID-19 related illnesses.
