Australia gives 250,000 vaccines: Fong The Australian government has provided 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca as form of assistance to Fiji.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said Australia’s total vaccine contribution to Fiji is 250,000 doses, this is from the one million pledged to Fiji.

Dr Fong in a statement said this includes the 70,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines which will arrive in the country next week.

“We’re grateful for their commitment, Australia’s commitment has helped us reserve the full dosage of coronavirus vaccines for every eligible Fijian,” he said.

“We’re grateful for the expedited commitment of the Australian and New Zealand governments as we contend with this surge in new local cases.

“We are also grateful to the government of Indi for its initial contribution to 100,000 coronavirus vaccines,” he said.

He said this week, several United States of America states, including New York and California, have lifted most of their coronavirus restrictions.

He said they were able to do so because they have immunised enough of their populations against coronavirus, Fiji’s road to recovery will look much the same.
