Coronavirus claims another life: MOH A 76-year-old man has died, two weeks after he was tested positive for coronavirus.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said the man was admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for pre-existing medical conditions.

Dr Fong while publicly announcing his passing said the doctors of Colonial War Memorial Hospital has assessed his death to be due to coronavirus.

“We have extended our condolences to the family of the deceased. This is the four deaths due to coronavirus during this current outbreak,” he said.

“We have recorded a total of 1533 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020. There have been 452 recoveries and 6 deaths due to coronavirus.

“64 coronavirus cases have recovered, which means there are now 1068 active cases in isolation. There have been 1463 cases during the outbreak that started in April 2021,” he said.

He said a total of seven coronavirus positive patients have died from pre-existing non-coronavirus-related illnesses.
