Woman threatens to sue CWM over death A woman is threatening to sue Colonial War Memorial Hospital and its staff for neglect after her brother-in-law died allegedly because he couldn’t get dialysis treatment as the machine was broken.

Sanjeshni Lal said her brother-in-law Raven Lal died on Tuesday at 2am, and she is highlighting the lack of treatment “as we do not want other people to die due to the dialysis machines being broken.”

She told FijiLive doctors attending to him said the machine has been broken for more than two weeks.

She also claimed when they repeatedly requested the dialysis treatment, doctors said to the family “why save him when he is in a wheelchair” and “over 60.”

She also alleged he had tested positive for coronavirus on admission, but there was no medical report.

“It was just a word of mouth from the staff at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.”

Lal also questioned why it took CWMH staff “more than six hours” to tell the family about his death.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong confirmed Lal’s death, but said it was not due to coronavirus.
