40% pregnant women tested positive: Fong About 40 percent of women going to the hospital to deliver babies have tested positive for coronavirus.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said this gives the ministry an indication that there is still a high level of coronavirus community cases.

Dr Fong said the ministry will be using the number of test positives per day as an indicator of how bad the problem is.

“The test numbers might drop, or the test positives might drop, but to us, that does not mean that we are getting over it.

“We have other parameters that we utilise to indicate how bad the problem is in Fiji, there are other indicators like what proportion of pregnant women come in positive,” he said.

He said the ministry will be using the percentage of pregnant women being tested positive for coronavirus while they come into labour.
