Cases average stands at 1046 The seven day average of new cases is 1046 cases per day

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong in a statement said coronavirus infections are widespread across the Suva-Nausori containment area.

Dr Fong said this means people living in this containment area while falling ill should assume they have the coronavirus infection.

He said with the high numbers of new daily cases, the health ministry is also seeing increasing cases of severe disease and deaths.

“If you develop any of the symptoms of the virus you should assume you have coronavirus and isolate yourself at home,” he said.

“People should not wait for a positive test result to self-isolate. Isolating yourself will help to stop the spread of coronavirus to others.

“The symptoms of coronavirus include are coughing, runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, loss of taste or smell, headache, aches, sore throat, fever, diarrhoea, red eyes, skin rash.

“If you have any of these symptoms please immediately isolate yourself from others including other members of your household and stay at home.

“Where possible, visit the nearest screening clinic for a coronavirus swab and advice. Ensure to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose,” he said.

He said severe coronavirus is a medical emergency, and a delay in receiving appropriate medical treatment reduces people chance of recovering from the disease.
