Penalised for ill-treating seasonal workers Some organisations have been penalised by the Australian government in the past for ill-treating seasonal workers.

Australia’s Minister for International Development Zed Seselja said the government takes the seasonal workers conditions very seriously.

Seselja in a virtual press conference said organisations are heavily penalised if found to be ill-treating seasonal workers.

“When it when it comes to the working conditions of people under the labour scheme and the seasonal worker programme, we take their working conditions very seriously,” he said.

“In fact that is subject to all Australian workplace laws, some of the highest standards in the world, when it comes to protection of workers.

“Organisations needed to ensure that workplace laws are all complied with, when we do hear reports of employers, perhaps not doing the right thing, we take that very seriously.

The Fair Work Ombudsman was formed to monitor, investigates and enforces compliance with the country’s workplace laws. Organisations are penalised if found guilty,” he said.

He said they ensure that all workers are protected under the law to ensure no one is ill treated by their employer.
