Cases won't be used as an indicator: Dr Fong The Health Ministry will not use the number of positive tests per day as an indicator to analyse the COVID-19 situation in the country.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong in an interview said the Ministry will instead use the number of admissions in hospitals.

Dr Fong said seven out of every ten pregnant women at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital testing positive for the virus means there is still an increase in community transmissions.

“The percentage of women who are positive when they come into labour are the kinds of things we will be using as indicators,” he said.

“I know you have been watching our case numbers and this is related to our testing and the other metric we look at is our test positivity.

“But as we go into this phase, we have to prioritise who we test because you think about why you test someone,” he said.

He said it is imperative for families and every individual to continue to practise coronavirus safety protocols.
