We're far from perfect in agriculture: Nand Newly sworn in Government Member of Parliament Sachida Nand says Fiji is far from being a perfect agricultural economy but that does not mean we should stop from assisting farmers in the communities.

Nand in his maiden speech in Parliament today said non-industrial countries like Fiji will continue to depend on the agriculture sector as it contributes significantly to the overall productivity.

“The coronavirus pandemic has had its adverse impact on the people and businesses. The Government is forging ahead putting the interest of the people first,” he said.

“There are two sectors that I hold dear to my heart and they are agriculture and small and medium enterprises.

“Non-industrial countries will continue to depend on the agriculture sector for its livelihood. Our Fiji is no exception.

“It increases productivity and will contribute significantly to the overall economy of this country. It also provide food for the people and significantly provides employment for those living in the rural.

He said farmers should take advantage of the assistance provided in the new financial year.
