Flaws in the survey, says Sayed-Khaiyum Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there are a number of flaws in the 2019-2020 Household Income and Expenditure Survey report released by the Bureau of Statistics.

Sayed-Khaiyum in a press conference said it is unfortunate that the Bureau of Statistics has released ethnicity and religious breakdown in the survey.

“The report that just came out recently did a breakdown along religion and ethnicity. There was a sample of 6000 households, three percent of the populations were used for the study.

“The question that needs to be asked is how the Bureau of Statistics derived from the 6000 samples the breakdown of ethnicity and religion.

“What was the base they derived these samples from is what we need to know. In the report there’s a map marked in red which shows where the samples were taken from.

“If they are basing their report on the 2017 population census, it had no reliable ethnic and religion data.

“Their base to use the report on the 2017 population census to do a breakdown on ethnicity and religion statistics is highly questionable and unreliable,” he said.

He said the report only has a two pages methodology which means they have not dealt deeply of how they assumed that from 6000 and there is a different representation of the ethnic groups.
