Viti Levu borders set to open

Viti Levu borders set to open Internal borders within Viti Levu are expected to be lifted soon as the second dose coverage has increased to 59.6 per cent and is short of the 60 per cent target by just 0.4 per cent.

Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong said as of yesterday, 573,247 adults in Fiji have received their first dose of the vaccine and 350,007 have received their second doses.

He said this means that 97.3 per cent of the target population have received at least one dose and 59.6 per cent are now fully vaccinated nationwide.

“It is unfortunate that villages and settlements in our rural areas continue to record low vaccination coverage,” he said.

“As such the public needs to remain cautious about how they engage in the greater freedom of movement that they will be enjoying.

“Whilst we understand that increased public movement is needed to facilitate livelihood and to get more families together we will be outlining further measures.

“This is to reduce the risk that travellers will place on these villages and communities. Please vaccinate, adhere to coronavirus safe measures and avoid contained spaces,” he said.
