Agents warned to adhere to the law: SOE Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has urged political parties agents to adhere to the laws in the polling stations in the upcoming 2022 general elections.

Saneem said political parties need to talk to their agents not to argue with the officials at polling stations, packing areas and postal vote verification areas.

He said in the last general election, they had received a complaint against a political party agent who was caught arguing with a police officer and ballot officer.

“When you come to this designated area, you will be required to comply with the standard rules for calling agents and not interfere in the process,” he said.

“One of the things that we urge you to do is talk to your agents not to argue with the officials conducting the process.

“One example was Ben Padarath in the last election, he ended up arguing with the police officers as well as the person who was running the ballot paper production.

“We had to ask Padarath to vacate the area because it was an unruly behaviour under any circumstances,” he said.

He said the polling handbook released said staff must not interfere with the election process and must not campaign during the exercise of their duties.

He said the golden law for staff to be stationed at polling venue is not to interfere with any of the voters at the polling place
