Saneem said three political parties planning to merge for the general elections in 2022 shows that there is a lot of freedom for parties to associate and disassociate with each other.

“The three political parties planning to merge for the general elections in 2022 need to ensure they are in compliance with their constitution, read it.

“Three political parties planning to merge for the general elections in 2022 shows that there is a lot of freedom for parties to associate and disassociate with each other,” he said.

Unity Fiji Party leader Savenaca Narube said opposition parties can only topple the ruling party by forming a coalition.

“The people have been asking for this coalition for ages and the demand is increasing, so we are responding to that through this initiative that we update,” Narube said.

“The people need something better and they need change. We have not made a decision as to who will lead the party when it merges in the next general elections.

“As to who will be leading the three political parties that will be discussed during the process of merging.

“We are asking for every political party to come together and help design all those specific to put in place before the general elections.

“This is the process; we have not formed a coalition yet. We have initiated the process to form a united opposition party in the 2022 general elections,” he said.
