Masks mandatory for students: Kumar Masks are mandatory for senior secondary students when they resume school in November.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar said students should ensure that masks are worn indoors and in overcrowded places outdoors.

Kumar in a press conference said students are expected to wear good quality masks that are multilayered, comfortable and must also cover their mouth and nose.

“Homemade masks are okay to be worn by students but as long they are multilayered, comfortable and suitable for the hot and moist environment,” she said.

“Handwashing with clean water and soap is necessary. Students washing their hands with soap and water regularly needed to practice at all times.

“Schools will also have hand sanitisers to use. The coronavirus safe protocols have been finalised by the task force made up of staff from the health ministry and education sector.

“I am urging from today until October 31 to prepare their school environment and classrooms. The two ministries will oversee the implementation of coronavirus safe school reopening,” she.

She said the task force will visit schools to ensure coronavirus protocols are adhered to before giving clearance for it to open.
