SOE's statement will discourage voters: Narube Unity Fiji Party leader Savenaca Narube claims the contradicting statement of the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem will discourage people to vote in 2022.

Narube said the Supervisor of Elections had stated that those that were already in the roll, were registered for life but in the same breath, he said that voter cards for some people had expired and must be renewed.

He in a statement said Saneem should stop confusing people.

“We are so close to the next elections and Saneem himself, who should be guiding us in this matter, appear absolutely confused,” he said.

“The question is whether people who are already registered for life to vote as he has confirmed turn up at the assigned voting venue on polling day, are they going to be allowed to vote.

“His fundamental duty is to encourage and make it easier for the people to register and vote. He seems to be doing exactly the opposite,” he said.

He said the recent amendments of the election and political party laws should give politicians and international community serious concern that voter turnout will be suppressed in 2022.
