Sufficient support for students parents: Kumar The Minister for Education Premila Kumar says the government assistance for children whose parents have lost their jobs is quite enough

Kumar made the statements while responding to questions on assistance government assistance for students whose parents lost their job.

Kumar said the government has been providing tuition fees for free for students in the last six years, also had been providing free textbooks and taxi fares.

She said this assistance will continue for students in years 12 and 13 who will resume classes on November 1, nothing will change.

“Teachers will be carrying out assessments on what students need when schools resume next month. We will look into what sorts of assistance we can give them,” she said.

“The free tuition fee, textbooks and taxi fares will continue for students in years 12 and 13 who will resume classes on November 1, nothing will change.

“The school term for years 12 and 13 is from November 1 to January 28. The Christmas and New Year break will be from December 23 to January 3,” she said.

She said examinations for years 12 and 13 are expected to start on January 17 which will be over two weeks and the result is expected to be out by mid-March.
