Sitting dates approved for next year Parliamentarians have approved the sitting dates for next year.

Leader of Government Inia Seruiratu said there were no objections from committee members on the dates set for Parliament sitting next year.

Seruiratu said business committee members have agreed that should there be an eminent need to readjust some of the sittings, this would be subsequently tabled in Parliament.

He said this is to allow some flexibility which would assist the continuing nationwide efforts in battling the coronavirus pandemic.

“The flexibility would also accommodate the necessary readjustments required with the re-opening of our borders,” he said.

“As ongoing practice, the dates of the budget address and budget debate will be confirmed in due course and this must and will take place either in June or July 2022.

“This sitting calendar will allow all the standing committees to continue with their committee work on the bills that have been reinstated today.

“Also on annual reports that are currently pending with the committees. It is with this reason also that all honourable members must support this proposed sitting calendar,” he said.

Parliament sitting dates approved for next year are February 7-11, March 7 to 11, April 4 to 8, May 9 to 13 and August 29 to September 2.
