Worry about SODELPA, PM tells Gavoka

Worry about SODELPA, PM tells Gavoka Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) Leader Viliame Gavoka should worry more about his own party than others as he has members who are ready to stab him in the back.

He claimed in Parliament that SODELPA members are not only ready to stab Gavoka in the back but also from the front and he should be more worried about that.

Bainimarama said SODELPA members would be fighting amongst themselves about what to do in every step if they were in Government.

“As I have said, I shudder to think what would have happened to Fiji if the Opposition was in Government during this crisis,” he said.

“They cannot figure out how to act as an Opposition much less lead as a Government. There would have been fighting amongst themselves about what to do in every step of the way.

“In fact the only thing they managed to unite around is the effort to halt our recovery. They have tried everything in their power to stir up panic.

“Some going so far as to demand we shut the border entirely. They want to scare people into believing that they face a false choice between lives and livelihoods,” he said.

He said it would be easy for him to slap his back and say shut the border every time a new virus emerges and this may satisfy some but this would be a reactive leadership and a terrible policy.

He said it would force people to live in an perpetual state of uncertainty and set Fiji towards becoming a small, weak and isolated nation.
