Ingesting sanitizers can prove fatal: MOH Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong has warned that the ingestion of hand sanitizer can cause alcohol poisoning and death.

Dr Fong comments come after Fiji Live witnessed people in Vanua Levu consuming hand sanitizer mixed with tang.

“Symptoms of hand sanitizer poisoning are slurred speech, a burning sensation in the stomach, dizziness, nausea and vomiting,” he said.

Dr Fong said this is extremely dangerous and the potential for overdose can prove fatal.
