No COVID critical cases: Dr Fong The Permanent Secretary for Health Dr James Fong says there are no longer any COVID 19 critical cases admitted in hospitals.

Dr Fong said the current number of coronavirus hospitalisations is an indication that the vaccination program is effective as no one is currently in critical condition.

He said the higher proportion of coronavirus patients admitted to the hospital had visited the facility for other reasons.

“A total of 205 patients are currently admitted in hospitals.  None of the patients admitted to the hospital are critical or severe,” he said.

“If a higher proportion of the coronavirus patients are diagnosed incidental to the reason why they are admitted to the hospital, that’s a good indication of how strong our vaccination is.

“I have mentioned before that Omicron has spread and will continue to spread until it touches all of us. It’s quite clear to us that severe impacts are not as bad as our previous waves,” he said

Dr Fong said they are trying to suppress the transmission of the virus in the communities so that hospitalisation numbers remain low.
