Saneem to take legal actions against FLP

In a press conference this morning, Saneem said allegations made by the Fiji Labour Party leader that he had resigned because of allegations for abuse of office were false. He said under the Electoral Act, a person or a political party must not publish any information which is likely to influence the outcome of an election. “We will be making a public statement on what actions we have taken against the Fiji Labour Party for spreading fake news that I had resigned over abuse of office,” he said. “The statements they have made are false. A person or a political party must not publish any information which is likely to influence the outcome of an election. “A notice will be delivered to the Fiji Labour Party on what actions we have decided to take against them for spreading false information,” he said. Saneem said The Electoral Act may direct a person or political party to remove or correct any statement. "The law states that a person or political party that contravenes this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 or imprisonment for a term of five years," Saneem said.
