The Human Rights and Anti Discrimination Commission Director Ashwin Raj says they strongly condemn the reprehensible act of gratuitous violence captured on a video showing a Police officer beating up a driver for allegedly not showing his driving license.
Raj is calling on the Fiji Police Force to hold the officer responsible to account.
“The HRADC has written to the Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force urging the Internal Affairs, to investigate this matter and ensure that the officer involved faces the full brunt of the law.”
Raj has also commended members of the public who witnessed this ordeal for speaking out and condemning this act of violence.
He added that the Commission will commence its own investigations into this matter.
“I remind every law enforcement officer, your badge and your uniform does not give you the right to use senseless violence on ordinary citizens.”
