Narube said a member of the public at a pocket meeting expressed her fear that this government will not deliver development to her village if they did not vote for FijiFirst. He said these revelations clearly confirm that this government is using development as a political weapon which is wrong and illegal. “We heard once again this week of this government tying development to votes. In one of our meetings, a listener revealed the buying of votes by this government,” he said. “Also, a listener at one of our pocket meetings expressed her fear that this Government will not deliver development to her village if they did not vote for FijiFirst. “These revelations clearly confirm that this government is using development as a political weapon. This is wrong. It is also illegal. “Section 23 of the 2013 constitution gives a person over 18 years of age the right to vote and the right to a free and fair election. “Therefore, in our view, what this government has done in the last two elections is against the constitution in law and in spirit,” he said. Narube said a free and fair election means that a voter must not be intimidated into voting for a party or a person because of the threat that the government will withhold development.
