Buivere aims to build house for dad

21-year-old Salote Buivere, the youngest Fijian to be selected to work in Australia under the Pacific Labour Scheme aims to build a house for her father upon returning.
The Waivaka villager from Namosi, who lives with her father, cried out how important the scheme is for her family.
"My aim is to earn a good amount of money and when I come back, I will build a house for my dad."
"My parents got divorced when I was five and ever since then my dad raised me."
Buivere said she and her father have been living in a one-bedroom house that has a small kitchen area and space for her bed while her father sleeps on the mattress on the floor.
"He is just a farmer and whatever he is able to sell in the market buys our food from that money."
"I want to go to Australia and earn money from there and build a good house."
"It’s been very tough to live in a small house and especially see my dad struggling so that we have a better life."
"My neighbors always tell me that I’m not only the daughter of the house; I have to act like a responsible son and not leave the hands that raised me these years."
"So I got to know about the scheme through a boy in our village who also worked in Australia in 2019 and when he came back he built a good house for his family," she said.
