Litiana Marama could not contain her emotions as her 2-year-old daughter, Raijieli Tiko was discharged after undergoing a successful heart surgery at Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital in Suva yesterday.

The 26-year-old said her daughter was diagnosed with congenital heart disease two months ago and it was tough for the family to bear the news.

She said in July her daughter’s health began deteriorating and later she was diagnosed with heart disease.

"She started coughing like from the end of July, which went up till August. We went to the hospital where medicines were given and then we came back. But the last day we went to the hospital it was her review then they found it in the review. They did an x-ray and everything and they found out she had a problem."

“I did not tell any of my family members of what we are going through because we were actually afraid of being discriminated against or get negative comments after the news”

Marama said they went to Nausori Health Centre to have her daughter’s check-up and from there they were told to get further checks done at the CWM hospital and from there  the doctors directed them to the Children’s Heart hospital in Maunikau.

"I did not lose any hope, I believed in god and I was filled with joy when Reijeili was called in for surgery on Tuesday. I did lose any faith and kept praying to god in the prayer room for her."

"I am happy to see my daughter healthy again."

Marama added  the last two months have been challenging for her and now she is happy to see her daughter healthy again.

She is urging parents whose children are yet to undergo a similar type of surgery to have faith and hope and not be afraid to seek medical help.
