SODELPA lists 11 demands to FFP

The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has written to the FijiFirst Party, listing its 11 demands to be met.

In the letter, General-Secretary Lenaitasi Duru said they propose a budget be directly allocated to the Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs with an allocation of $159 million.

Duru also called for the removal of the Tertiary Loan Scheme as part of its education policies, and the repealing of the 32 laws deemed discriminatory.

SODELPA also wants a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem and four other embassies.

In the letter, Duru is also proposing that Standing Order 51 not to be used in advancing Land Bills and any discussions affecting Indigenous Affairs.

The Party also wants its leader Viliame Gavoka to be given the post of Deputy Prime Minister.

Duru said that the Speaker, the Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Attorney-General roles be given to them.

The letter has also demanded that the retirement age moved to 60 years and the Civil Servants contractual periods to be opened.

SODELPA has indicated that these demands have been made also to the People’s Alliance and the National Federation Party; where an open channel of communications remains open for these Parties.

However, in its initial letter and discussions from the FijiFirst Party to SODELPA, FijiFirst firstly, indicated that SODELPA will be awarded the Minister for Fijian Affairs and the Chairmanship of the i-Taukei Land Trust Board.

SODELPA will also hold the portfolio of the Minister for Forestry and another ministerial position.

In that letter, the FijiFirst Party indicated that SODELPA be included as part of various Government statutory and commercial company boards and that it will be allocated an office at the Parliament Chambers with staffing.
