New Fijian cabinet sworn in

Fiji’s new cabinet was sworn-in at the State House in Suva today following the election of Sitiveni Rabuka as the country’s Prime Minister in Parliament earlier on.

Rabuka will also take up the portfolio of Minister for Foreign Affairs Climate Change, Civil Service, Information and Public Enterprises.

Former Magistrate Siromi Turaga is the new Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad has been appointed as one of the three Deputy Prime Ministers of the country and will also take up position of Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistic Minister.

Esrom Immanuel will be his Assistant Minister.

NFP President Pio Tikoduadua is the new Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration and former trade unionist Agni Deo Singh has been appointed as the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.

Newly elected SODELPA MP Ifereimi Vasu has been appointed the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Culture and Heritage while Acting Deputy Leader of SODELPA Aseri Radrodro is the new Minister for Education and Dr Antonio Lalabalavu is the new Minister for Health and Medical Services.

PA’s Deputy Leader Lynda Tabuya is the Minister Responsible for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, with Sashi Kiran appointed as her Assistant Minister.

Suva lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo is the new Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, while PA’s Deputy Leader Manoa Kamikamica is the Minister for External Trade Cooperatives and SMEs and is also a Deputy Prime Minister.

PA’s General-Secretary, Sakiasi Ditoka is the Minister Responsible for Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management, while SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka is the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation as well as a Deputy Prime Minister.

Other Members of Parliament with other portfolios in the new cabinet include Labasa businessman Charan Jeath Singh who is the new Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Minister for Sugar, Maciu Katamotu is the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Kalaveti Vodo Ravu is the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, Jese Saukuru is the Minister for Youth and Sports while Ro Filipe Tuisawau is the Minister for Public Works, Communications, Transport and Meteorological Service.

Sakiusa Tubuna is the Assistant Minister in the PM’s Office, Jovesa Vocea is the Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Alitia Bainivalu is Assistant Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Iliesa Vanawalu is the Assistant Minister for Education, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure is the Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, Iliesa Sovui Vanawalu is the Assistant Minister for Education, Lenora Qereqeretabua is the Assistant Minister for Housing and Local Government, Tomasi Tunabuna is the Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, and Ratu Isikeli Tuiwailevu is the Assistant Minister for Rural, Maritime Development and Disaster Management.
