US to strengthen bonds with Fiji

U.S. President Joe Biden says he looks forward to further strengthening the bonds with Fiji in the coming years and advance the shared vision for a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

In his congratulatory message to newly elected Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Biden said as close partners, Fiji and the United States work together to advance an Indo-Pacific that is free, open, prosperous, and secure.

“Together, we have also made progress on key challenges—including promoting sustainable economic recovery, tackling climate change, and curbing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.”

Rabuka was elected the country’s Prime Minister by the Fijian Parliament on Saturday after getting 28 votes through secret ballot while former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama managed to get 27.
