Cabinet held its first briefing today with the Permanent Secretary of Finance, Shiri Goundar.
The meeting was held at the Office of the Prime Minister this morning.
Among the main items on the agenda were the state of the Fijian economy, policies, addressing ways to cut government spending and wastage, including the proposed pay reduction for the Prime Minister, Ministers, Assistant Minister, Leader of Opposition and Members of Parliament.
Speaking to the media after the briefing, Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad said Permanent Secretaries from different departments made their presentation to cabinet as well.
He said the people of Fiji know the state that Fiji is in and that we came out of a crisis.
“Government is working hard to meet these challenges, and we are optimistic about our stance.”
Prof Prasad said the formal cabinet meeting is expected to be announced by Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.
