PM won’t open dev projects from now on

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says it will no longer be part of the Prime Minister’s agenda to open all development projects, as was the practice of the previous government.

Rabuka said everyone involved in the project should be involved in the opening of the project together with the Minister Responsible for that particular project.

The Prime Minister made this statement yesterday, when he was formally welcomed by the Heads of Governmental Department during his first official tour of the Northern Division.

This was after the Prime Minister was invited to open a new bridge in the North, scheduled for tomorrow.

“It is no longer the function or the efforts of the Prime Minister that we see all these development projects come to fruition, so rightly everyone involved should feature at the end of the show. I will be asking the Minister Responsible to be present at the opening.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted that while it is the Government’s responsibility to partner with communities, the onus is on the community to take it upon themselves to unite and get the job done.

“I will be opening tomorrow (today) a village hall, total efforts of the people of Drekeniwai Village in Navatu.

“I want these to be an example of what can be achieved when Fijians work together in unity for a common purpose, a common objective, because it is the core function of Government to assist people, and it is a core function for society and the community to try in every way to help themselves,” he added.
