The Fiji Government will establish a Mercy Commission by Friday.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed this during his tour of the Northern Division where he is currently visiting Government officials and opening state funded projects.
The Commission will be tasked to see which prisoners are eligible for release.
Rabuka said the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) according to the Constitution will be the authority in-charge.
2000 coup leader George Speight, co-conspirator Josefa Nata and Naitasiri High Chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata are believed to be among those who may be considered for a release under the Commission.
