The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai says that his statement today focussed on ensuring that government follows proper procedures and processes when making changes in its effort to establish power.
In a statement issued by RFMF this morning, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces raised concerns with regard to what it terms as sweeping changes of the current government to establish a firm transition of power and democratic control as the government of the day.
This afternoon, Kalouniwai spoke to members of the media before he headed up to meet the Minister of Defence, Pio Tikoduadua, on what is believed to have been a summons.
Kalouniwai said it was inappropriate to highlight the particular changes in terms of appointments and decisions, but he believes the government would understand through the RFMF’s line minister, as they have been having consultations with him over the past few days.
“The RFMF will continue to stand for democracy, the rule of law and honour the government. The rule of law must be paramount and at the same time an opportunity for everyone to implement and abide by the laws of Fiji,” he added.
FijiLive is trying to get a comment from the Office of the Prime Minister and the Minister for Defence on their meeting with the Commander this afternoon.
