Rabuka to make announcement today

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to make a special announcement later today.

The Government since last week has continued to hint that parents and students can expect good news with the Tertiary Education Loans Scheme.

Yesterday, Cabinet met yesterday to discuss numerous issues concerning the country, however main on the agenda was the Coalition’s Government commitment signed last month by leaders of the People’s Alliance, National Federation Party and the Social Democratic Liberal Party.

The agreement is to abolish the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme and Toppers Scheme, waive and forgive all TELS student debt and replace the current TELS arrangements with a merit-based scholarship scheme for everyone who qualifies to enter a registered tertiary institution, subject to proper employment need’s assessment.

The Prime Minister will go live on national television and on its Fiji Government’s Facebook Page at 12pm.
