No civil service pay cuts: Prasad

Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, says that there will not be any pay cuts for civil servants.

In a press conference, Prof Prasad said these were rumours and misinformation spread by those in the previous government during the campaign period.

“Let not beat the drum on behalf of the previous government, and let me assure civil servants that this is not on the agenda of the Political Parties, particularly the Coalition Government.”

However, Prof Prasad said that the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is expected to make an announcement on pay reductions for the Prime Minister and the Ministers in the coming days.

He said this is expected to happen.

“We are already on a 20 per cent pay reduction from the last parliament term, that’s still there. The Prime Minister will make that announcement on that front soon.”
