No request for assistance from affected areas: PM

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that Government will not be providing any food or cash assistance to Fijians affected by the recent flooding in the Western Division.

In a press conference, Rabuka said the line Minister Sakiasi Ditoka has briefed him and stated that no request for assistance came from affected people and no evacuation centres were activated.

However, the Prime Minister said there were roads that were partially washed away.

Meanwhile the Fiji Meteorological Office has indicated that a trough of low pressure will affect the Fiji Group this weekend.

The Weather Office has also issued a heavy rain alert for some parts of the country.
